Lara Gallagher – Coach’s Corner September 2015 – Bantam BB
Head coach Lara Gallagher has an extensive hockey background, along with completion of the NCCP Coach Development I certificate, she has been committed to the development of young female hockey players and the Etobicoke Dolphins organization. She started coaching with the Etobicoke Dolphins in 2005 as a house league coach and has been working her way through the levels and divisions with her daughter, next year Lara will be coaching Bantam BB.
Her philosophy is to create a competitive, yet fun environment, with high expectations for performance. Development occurs best when the fear of making “mistakes” is limited. We learn from our mistakes: this message is regularly reinforced during practices and games. On her team, the atmosphere is kept light; all team members are encouraged to relax and to focus on executing acquired skills and knowledge.
Coach Lara reinforces her coaching by “believing inner-confidence is the top of the pyramid and to rise and remain there you need the layers in between to be strong. Layers such as personal commitment, inner drive, sense of accomplishment, desire to succeed, strength, knowledge, energy and the overall love and passion is what I hope to instill to young female athletes. My coaching will assist and teach players how to love the game of hockey. I enjoy teaching the players the physical and mental skills required to successfully play hockey, which are required to build the core layers to reach the top of the pyramid”.
In conclusion Coach Lara would like to thank the amazing girls and parents she has had the opportunity to coach (and continue to coach) for their outstanding dedication and commitment and also to the Etobicoke Dolphins organization for their continued support.
Best of luck with the upcoming season!
